Look out for Swindling Nursery Agents

The following letter from well known seed house of D. ,M. Ferry A Co., of Detroit* needs no explanation, but speaks clearly for itse.f. We may-say however, that several instances of persons being grossly swindled through buying' nursery stock of irresponsible agents, have lately come to our notice. May 3, 1886. Editor Republican, Rensselaer, lud., Dear Sir: It has been reported to us fvojn several distinct sources that a certain* John \\ . Poole has beejti employing agents in Newton and Jasper eyuntics, Indiana and Iroquois county Illinois, to travel and sell trees and nursery stock, to be delivered at some future time, representing to them and instructing them to represent to purchasers that the nursery which filled the orders was a branch of our business, or in some instances that our Mr. Ferry, personally, or our company was largely interested in said nursery. ‘ If any such representations are being made to.the people of your vicinity, they are false. We do not know this John W. Poole. He is hot connected with D. M. Ferry A Co., in any .manner whatsoever, nor are we, nor our Mr. Ferry, interested in any nursery here or elsewhere. We are not engaged in the nursery business in any form If you will kindly give these facts publicity you will probably save some of your readers from imposition, loss and 1 disappoint ment, • Yours truly, D.
