Who Kilted the Wolves.
The bounty on wolf scalps in Ill's (-.Minty hns been for n jout >ast five dollars for old wolves and >1.50 each for cubs. They are till killed occasionally ,iu all parts >f the county, and during the year mling May Ist 1880, bounties .‘.'ere paid by the County Auditor n the scalps of forty-one wolves, joung aud old; and the entire amount of which bounties was $131.50. The names of the persons who presented the scalps, the township in which the wolves were killed, the date upon which the bounties were claimed, the kind of wolves and tin- total amount paid each claimant are as follows. There is much and grevious grumbling among the wolf slayers over the small bounties now paid, and especially over the $1.50 rate ou the "little fellows. Mr. Stack, for instance, mourned with many objurgations, and refused to be comforted, because that he had not turned loose to multiply and replenish the earth, the five cub s he brought in from Union township, instead of taking their innocent lives for a dollar fifty apiece.
