A Mistake Somewhere.
The following dispatch.or someliiingvery similar, appeared in most of the Chicago papers last Thursday: Joliet, 111,, April 21.- O. C. llagerman, the clever crook who made liis escape from Sheriff Wyatt, of Douglas county, by jumping from a passenger train running at the rate of forty miles an hour one night last week hear New Lennox, 111., while the Sherifi was on his wav to the Joliet prison with a gang o£ convicts was recaptured this morning at Rensselaer, ind., by the city marshal of that town. Hagerman was iu the act of robbing the residence of John Knight, and ftas returned to Joliet this evening. His flying jump from the express train did not hurt him iu the least The Joliet Republic & Suit contained about the same account, only considerably amplified, especially with the statement that our city marshal” knew that Hagev- ! -an was wanted in Joliet and took rim to that place. That the above account must be slightly inaccurate in at least one _or two minor particulars will be ■ \-ulily inferred when we inform mix readers that our city marshal, Mr. Wm. Warren, never heard of it her the above named Hagerm-m, -•r John Knight; and what is more remarkable, even knew nothing of the heroic arrest lie is credited with making, uutil he saw the fact •-tated in the newspapers.*
