The Town Convention-

The mass convention of Rensselaer Republicans at the court house last Monday evening, was attended by very nearly all the Republican voters of the place, .and altlidugli there were several close and exciting contests for nominations, a more harmonious or good-natured gatbefiirg irevcr -assembled -therer All the voting was by ballot and a majority vote was necessary to nominate. A most excellent ticket was put in the< field. For Councilman from the first-ward, R. P Benjamin, the lumber dealer, was nominated on the first ballot, over Jos. Hardman, his only contestant. In the second ward, C. F. Wren, the station agent, was nominated, also on the first ballot, over two Competitors, J. G. Porter and Addison Parkinson. In the fourth Ward Wm. Greenfield was nominated, his only opponent being I). G. Warner. For town Treasurer C. G. Starr received more votes than J. C. Morgan. For town Marshal, Wm. Warren, the present incumbent, Chas. Platt, Holdridge Clark;, Albert Ramey and Henry Wbod were voted for on the first ballot. Warreij and Platt received 54 vote each while the others straggled far in the rear. Clark and Ramey then withdrew tlleir names and Warren was nominated by a small majority. For towh Clerk the contest was most animated. Val Seib, the present Clerk, C. C. WOrner and H. J. Dexter far in the rear. The latter withdrew his name before the third ballot and the vote stood 74 for Warner, 73 for Seib and 2 for Dexter. The chairman overlooked the two votes for Dexter and announced that Warner had a majority. The mistake was soon pointed out, and though it occasioned, considerable confusion and some delay, the ballotting was soon again proceeded with. The fourth ballot resulted about the same, as the third,' but on the fifth Warner was nominated by a small majority. The nomination of Clerk completed the ticket.
