Miscellaneous -State Items. —When Michael Stumpff, a Charlestown saloonist, opened his place of bnsiness, recently, he was horrified to discover the dead body of Evan Shelby, Recorder of Clark County, lying in the back yard. Shelby resides In Charlestown, bat takes the C o’clock train every morning for Jeffersonville, and returns home at Bp. m. That-night he visited the saloon kept by Stumpff, and took several drinks, which caused him to become very drunk. He stepped into the back yard and fell upon his face, and, being unable to arise, died, it -is-supposed, of heart disease. —At Terre Haute the 14-year-old son of Perry Carpenter, of Honey Creek township, Vigo County, was thrown under the feet of a team of frightened horses whose bends he was holding and trampled upon. His head was bruised, his arm broken, and spine fractured, producing paralysis. He survive. —Bohemian oats is cheaper now than it was a year ago. Martin Bruer, a Madison Township farmer, brought in a load of it yesterday and sold it for one cent a (found, averaging between fifty and sixty cents _» bushel. Some people pay *lO a bushel for Bohemian Oats. \ Others don’t. —Fort ' Wayne Journal. —Thomas Beydone, one of the leading physicians of Valparaiso, while snperintendibg Bbme rneri engaged in putting wa-ter-pipes from the street into his house, was stricken down with apoplexy and died before he could be taken into his house. He leaves a widow and several children. —Thomas J. Vanosdol died very suddenly the other morning, at his residence near Pleasant Postoffice, Switzerland County. He was in his seventy-second year, and was a much-respected citizen. Ho leaves a widow and one child, Capt. A. |). Vanosdol, of-Madison. —At Madison, on Saturday, Judge Berkshire, in the suit of the. National Braneh Bank vs. N. S. Wolf, rendered judgment for the plaintiff for $3,000 and interest,and act aside the transfer of road stock made by Wolf to his uncle. Thu secures the -bank.. _ . - - , . —The remains of ex-City Marshal Burns, Kokomo, was followed to the tomb, recently, by a Jarge concourse, of people. He died on Sunday, of consumption. His mother aud oho brother are all that remain oi a targe family.
