BLACKFORD ITEMSThe roads die almost impassable. Mr. John Casey forbids hunting on his farm. Jim MeColly went too close to a burning brush heap, and now mourns the loss of his mustache. Mr. Oscar Abbett was charged with too much intimacy with a Miss Obencliain, for which the girl’s parents brought suit against him; but Oscar heard of the proceeding and took a walk. The new church fever is abating and is hardly spoken of now, but a short time ago we could hear nothing else. The people-,.0f this vicinity are able to build a church if tiiey would, but they never will unless they go to work; talk is talk, but it will take work and money to build a church. <- . 61 Long Samuel.

T Mrs. Hem*y Barkley has been very sick wil h cramp in the stomach. * The protracted meeting at Independence has closed, with three or four accessions to the church. Mr. Sample, of Wabash, county, has moved on his farm, formerly owned by Dr. J. H. Loughridge. Mrs. Florence talks of going to Kansas in the spring, with her son Thomas, and want’s to sell her farm. Mr. John Frazee contemplates building a new. barn in early spring, which will add to the appearance of his farm. -- Mr. G. W. Burk lias gone to Kansas on a business trip and left bis newly wedded son at Home in charge of tile affairs of the farm. Wheatfield is peaceful and quiet, but is rejoicing over*, her new P. M. The town is improving and new buildings are constantly going 6 U P- ~ f Nubbin Ridge has ail the appearance of life. It does not seem to be suffering from hard times, mud or the general gossip; of all of which there is plenty and some to spare. J ack in the Pulpit. •. v r : . DE MOTTE DOINGS. Constable Dolsou gave some of our citizens a brief call a few days ago, a law suit on hand, Mr. M. F. jiresent trustee, lias beerß ah efficient" officer and his work in the schools is apparent. Mr. J. Hollettand family returned last Tuesday morning from their extended visit in Ranting-. ton county. The Literary at this place was a grand success, so it is said, Literary “again next Friday"~hight. Odme nut everybody. The young folks of this place beguiled a few hours away Saturday night, in candy pulling and a general merry making. Our feßow townsman, Mr- D. E. Fairchild, visited the county seat list; Saturday, a\ chairman of Keener township central committee.

Theodore Stiers, ’ who h&s been for several months under treatment for cancer of the throat, is no better. H. S. fiaily is making asi addition to his house which improves the appearance of the place as well a# the comfort of its occupants. Mumps have visited this section of country, having been guests of the families of P. H. Zea, Mason Kenton and F. Zard. These patients have all recovered except in appearance. The young people of Banta School house are preparing for an exhibition. WN either time nor expense will be spared, to make it a success. ‘Announcement as to the time will be duly made. Mrs.. Lucy Bussell is reported as being very sick. Charley Lefler, who is afflicted with that terrible disease, consumption, is no better.
