Bates Gets the Post-ffice.

The long contest over the Rensselaer post-ofiie& was ended last Tuesday, by the nomination, by the President, of N. S. Bates. The appointment seems to be generally popular among the people, and as for the disgruntled Democratic politicians, who were working for other men, they will, of course make the best face they can over their disappointed schemes. It will probably be sevei’al weeks before the necessary preliminaries can be arranged, and Mr. Bates take possession of the office. f
