GENERAL.

Reports from leading postoffices throughout the United States for the past six months show an increased revenue of 18.5 per cent, at St. Paul, 17.8 at Kansas City, 14.3 at Cincinnati, 12.1 at Minneapolis, 10.8 at Chicago, and 10.4 at Boston. Twenty-four persons perished in Kansas by the recent blizzard, and others are believed to be missing Emily Barmore, a reputable colored woman of Anderson County, South Carolina, froze to death with two young children The remains of four men, who had been frozen to death, were found near Benkelman, Neb. In the District of Akron, Col., several persons also perished by the storm. .Three colored persons perished in a blazing tenement at King’s Mountain* Miehy William Lynch, in endeavoring to obtain a pension, discovered that in tha vital statistics of New York his birth was recorded as that of a girl... .A special committee of the National Base-Ball League has decided to admit the National Club, of Washington, in place of the Providence Club.... Congressman Maybury, of Michigan, has only recently ascertained the whereabouts of a brother who had been mourned as dead for nearly a score of years... .The Municipal Council of Halifax, N. S., has requested the Dominion Government to take such steps as will lead to a reciprocity treaty with the United States. Failing to secure a satisfactory treaty, the Government is requested to place a sufficient number of armed vessels along the Canadian coasts to protect Canadian fisheries from American encroachments.
