The Circuit Court Notes.
Judge Ward arrived, Monday evening, and organized the grand jury, the original panel of the body all being present. Irenus SliortTidge, ol Keener township, was made foreman. Prosecutor Walker is not present at this term, but is represented by Daniel Eraser, of Fowler The petit jury is not called until next week. —The two indictments against John M. Welsh, the ex-postmaster or Wheatfield, for embezzlement, were'quashed °n accouut of verbal defects;-find the grand jury having failed to return another indictment against him, he was discharged/ The two cases against Mary J Jones, for larcmiy, were continued until the March term, and the bail reduced to $25. The case agaipst Henry C. Smith, for dJunkoness in a public place, was dismissed. The two cases of assault, against Nicholas Guas and Morgan Shields; respectively, were disposed of by discharging Niek and fining Shields $5 and costs. The circumstances of this row were that Nick gave a dance, at his place in Union tp., and that Morgan came, there, full of booze, and Guss tried to fire him out. Shields then struck him on the right cheeky and Guss, having the injunction of. Scripture in mind, turned to his the left cheek also; Morgan having : availed himself of the opportunity and smitten that side -of Nick’s jowl, the latter felt at liberty to lick him, aqd did so in gpod shape. The Court evidently construed the intejit of the scriptural law in the Same manner that Guss did, and hence his discharge.
