A Washington special to the Chicago Daily Netcs says: “It is now lai own beyond all question that Senators Logan and Cullom will oppose the confirmation of every Presidential Postmaster whose predecessor had not served out his term, including Mr. Judd, against whom the argument will be made that he was appointed in order to make more certain the election of a Democratic Senator last spring. Mr. Cullom will also make a fight against District Attorney Connolly’s successor and several Internal Revenue Collectors appointed during the summer recess.” Secretary Lamar has requested the President to ask Congress to authorize the use bf $15,000 appropriated by Congress last year “to supply food and other necessities of life in cases of distress among the Indians not havingt reaty funds” for the temporary relief of the Northeim Cheyennes on the Tongue and Rosebud rivers, in Montana. The department has information that these Indians are in great distress for want of food and sufficient clothing.’ The Senate Committee on Privileges And Elections agreed to report Senator Hoar’s bill regulating the Presidential succession, with certain amendments. The bill provides that in the event of the death of . the President and Vice President, the members of the Cabinet shall succeed to the executive office, beginning with the Secretary of

the linn of Succession continuing throtfgh in the order of seniority.
