Massachusetts Mountaineers.
Six green Shelton people loaded themselves into a -wagon recently, and drove to New Haven to visit. The family visited, alarmed by the number, got rid of them at night by saying that a small-pox patient was in the house. They went to an hotel, and all packed into a single room. The officiating old woman put her shoe over the gas jet to put it out, and turned the water faucet, having heard somewhere that to put out gas a something had to be turned. In the night the porter was alarmed by smelling gas. He found the country folk all unconscious in the room, and the floor was flooded with water. They were saved.—Springfield .Republican.
