In some places in that state three or four inches of snow fell. R. B. Harris, of Barkley tp., says that tire report that he thinks of moving to town next year is a mistake. Ben has a fine residence and a splendid farm, in Barkley, and undoubtedly thinks wisely in staying for a few years yet. A report has been generally current this week that our gallant friend Dexter, in the post-office store, has ceased io be a bachelor. The only proof known to exist of the correctness of the rumor, is the fact that the young man has been accepting congratulations and setting up the cigars, with a good deal of complacency. At the special September session of the Board of Commissioners, the Canton Wrought Iron Bridge Co., of Toledo Ohio, „was given the Contrast for a bridge over Carpenter’s creek, near Ritchey’s place. The bridge was. to have been completed by Nov., Ist but that date has already passed and nothing has been done upon the bridge. Hog cholera is reported from various portions of the county. F. B. Mrs. Sadie Laßue, with the abl e assistance of Miss Louisa Platt, will do the trimming in Mrs. LaRue’s Millinery Establishment, this season. As Millinery Artists they have already taken front rank. Ladies, call and see the late winter styles. The Turpie Bros., a well known trading firm of Monon, has lately been closed out by the sheriff. The aggregate amount of the judgments and executions against them amount to about SB,OOO. The business methods and social mo rals of these men are well known inßensselaer, and their reverses will call forth mighty little sympathy. The marriage license, elsewhere reported, of Marcus G. Lewis and Miss Mary E. Swartz was in our possession in time for publication last week, but owing to the modesty of the prospective groom, we acceded to his request and deferred the publication for a week. We give notice to Mr. Lewis, however, that the next time we find his name upon the Marriage record in the Clerk’s office, wes shall publish the fact in our very next issue. Dresser, of Lafeayette, came up Wednesday, on a little law business and on motion of Hon, R. 8. Dwiggins, was made a member of the Jasper county bar. The boys of the bld 86 Ind., will be pleased to know that the Col. is looking as handsome and well fed as ever. The arrest and prosecution of Prof. Banta, of Monon, for punishing a refractory pupil, was done without the knowledge of the boy’s father, Wm. Gray, and he filed an affidavit in the court that he did not wish to prosecute the case. The boy also filed an affidavit, stating that he was not severely fiogged, and that the first affidavit was wormed out of hijn. A, K. Sills, an alleged lawyer, of Monon, has: it is said, the principal credit for the miserable, malicious business. The L. N. A. <t C. will be the first Indianapolis line to put into service Maun boudoir cars. Two are now being built especially for the run between Indianapolis and Chicago. They will be ready for use December 1, and will, of course, be put on the night run. will be of combination pattern, with all the superior advantages of the Mann patents. The Mann car has, it will be remembered, transverse berths, each separated and isolated from the others, affording absolute privacy. The celebrated Logansport libel suit of the Rev. Loucks against the editor Louthian, is set to come up for another hearing at Delphi, next Monday. Judge Hammond, of this place, has been asked to preside and has consented to do so. It will be remembered that at the former trial of the case the jury could not agree, and were divided according to their political beliefs. The alleged libel and consequent litigation was the result of political dissensions and considering the partisan bias of men, there is little reaaon to exp_ect that the cause \vill ever be finally determined.

Chilcote began a five months term of teaching at the Snyder school housej in Walker tp., last Monday. Fred is a graduate of the Rensselaer high school Owing to thS bad weather of last Sunday the new M. E. church in Barkley tp., was not dedicated at the time appointed. The dedicatory services have now been set for Sunday Nov., 15th. A child’s long, white dress, very ornamental, trimmed all down the front with insertion, and on the bottom with lace, was lost at the county fair. If some honest persons have it in their possession they will confer a favor by leaving it at the Rensselaer post office.
Mr. Theodore Styers, of Hanging Grove tp., whose trip to Chicago last week, for the purpose o f having a cancer removed from his lower jaw, was assured by the eminent surgeon who examined him, that an operation w r as not practicable in his case. The cancer extends entirely around the lower jaw, under the chin, and it is probable that the surgeon thought it impossible to remove it, without severing the wind-pipe or some of the large veins and arteries, found in that part of the body. Our snake story is late in making its appearance, but, unlike the common run of has the unusual quality of being true: A Mrs Ott, of Jordan township, was lately going to a neighbor’s house, and encountered a very large bull snake. Noticing a number of peculiar protruberances along thejmiddle portions of the serpent, she procured a hoe and proceeded to make an antemortem dissection of the critter, and found inside pine eggs, of about half the size of hen’s eggs. The most astonishing part of the story 1 now remains to be told. A citizen living near, being informed of the discovery, took the eggs and placed them under a setting hen. In a short time four of them hatched out into lively young ones, and, at last accounts, they were actually running with the hen and doing well!
