Indiana Slate Fair.
The present season so far, is the most projdyotive in the history of the State. The grass and hay crop the most important ,of the products, is immense and all that could be desired. The corn crop, second iu importance, is magnificent, the recent hot weather with the propitious raips have giveu it boom by which it promises to excel in this ..State any previous ’year by several millions.of bushels. The wheat erop although comparatively light in quantity, is of good quality and exceeds ail anticipated estimates, with enough and to spare. The oat crop is the largest ever grownjjrthe St&to by one fifth, and the potato crop; the most indispensable to the human family, will be of such proportions that we could feed the v/orld. Mother Earth is certainly doing her full shari to bring about good times and make happy those who tickle her bosom. These facts in connection with anspieious omens in the rooms of the Board of Agriculture in the shape of business connected with the State Fair, the commence September 28'tji, give assgrahee of another g* ra n'd success. It has been asserted that the last Indiana State Fair was the best agri cultural exhibition in the U. S. This is not mere assertion for the facts can be easily produced to prove it, and the management have reason to expect this season an improvement on the last. The fair has outgrown its' clothes, the greatest want now is more room do -.-safeacLdtseli, and the. , day .is notiar distant, (for the idea is now being enn | tertained) to Shut out all vehicles from the ground during the Fair to give room for the exhibits and visitors. * The Railroads promise better Tates* than ever, and there is hope of some of the prominent men of ine nation be-, ing present at the Fair.
How the Case Terminated.
Tlans. Howland, a former proprietor of the Heusselaor marble- works, came to this place on a spree, -several days ago. He brought with him an old horse and buggy, which he claimed as Ids own. After trying several men he finally sold, the outfit to Clias. Stebbins for sdo, and Stebbins sold the horse to Marshal Hough for s2o. Last Sunday, JMcDade, the Fowler marble man, came over and claimed the property and took it* away. Mr. Stebbins had repaired the buggy, and was out alltogether about S7O. Howland was canvassing for McUade, and was using the horse and buggy, and didn't osvn a dollar in it. Stebbins went to Rensselaer last Monday and returned Tuesday morning with Howland and a constable from that county. *' There being no J ustice of the peace in this township, arrangements were made to take the prisoner to Kentland on the 10:08 train. At this stage, of the proceedings the Rensselaer constable kicked for his expenses, and threatened to turn the prisoner loose unless he received them forthwith. When the train pulled in Stebbins and his Yeoman, boarded the train, while the constable and prisoner stepped back and allowed the prosecuting witness and the le«al gentleman to proceed on their way to the county seat, minus officer and prisoner. Howland borrowed a quarter of a philanthropic citizen, and after ••setting ’em up”, the constable and prison erstr&rted east on the railroad, the so.-mer apparently as anxious.' to get away as tne latter.-lioudland Herald.
In addition to and, modification ,ot the above account of this unfortunate, matter wo may':-ay that S. 11. Duvall was the spoti-d constable above-spoKon of, and that both .ho and others say that Stebbic? and Yeoman were too drunk to know wbat tLcv were ah on when they boarded the cars; for Kentland. A Voice from Providence, R. I. For twenty years I Lave been affleted with a dreadful blood poison, and during all those years II have had the best medical advice in the country, the physiciaus prescribing the only remedies known, such as Mercury and lodide of potassium, all to no purpose. I was six months in Bellevue Hospital, and became so bad that I despaired of getting well. I then, through advice, went to Europe and tried some of the best physicians there with the same results, and I returned again to this country. Finally I went to New Orleans, being told that the French doctors understood the treatment of imy case better, and perhaps could cure me. Alas, however, after taking more mercury and potassium from them. I became so much worse that 1 gave up to die. So bad had I j become that I was a sight to behold. I had large ulcers all over my body and face. There were holes in my legs that you i could put a lien’s' egg in, clear
tloivu ty) the bone. A numiu-r of pieces of bone came out at my ankle., and now 1 carry flic scars op mjf face and body of tlie frighiful character of this disease. I then came back.to i Providence, and bv chance o-'ot. hold of a }>a})ei with the adver- | tisement of Swift’s Specific in' jit of a wonderful cure. As a last hope i fiioitwlit J Would try it. He Wanted It Bad But Wouldn’t Pay the Price.
A young man from Union tp., walked into the County Auditor’s office last Saturday and asked Deputy Auditor Warren to sell him a marriage license. Mr. Warren informed him that lie was in the wrong office, and politely escorted him into the Clerk’s office. After learning what was wanted the Clerk prepared to make out the license, and asked the applicant for his name. This he refused to state unti( he was tqld the price for the license. Upon being told that it was two dollars he refused to pay that much and declared that he would find some one that would sell him one for a less price, or would go without it entirely. The boys then tnought they might as well have a little sport out of the parsimonious young man, and sent him into the Recorder's of--li.ee to inquire, of That official whether he*, dealt, ip marriage licenses, at a heavy discount for cash. Of course the Recorder could not supply him with'the necessary paper, at any price, and the boys then directed him to go. to the office o' Brother McEvven and get one printed. Neighbor Mae is not lacking in a spirit of accommodation but it is not at all likely that he would undertake to cut under the established rate for marriage license . Be that as it may the young-man-affaid-of-his-two-dollars had not yet return to the Clerk'S office after, a. license.
