Miss Graham, of Indiattapolis, is visiting relatives in this township.^ Mrs. Libbie Cunningham, of Nile si Mich., is visiting friends. -There will 4 be another one the last Sunday in August, raiu or shine. The pic-nic was , a grand success. Francesville was well prepresented and furnished music with their new band. Our Basket meeting was “spoiled" on account of the heavy rain on Sunday forenoon. Mr. E. A. Elston and wife, of■ Medaryvillc, visited the Ratli fun family, on Sunday. <«, Mr. D. H. Guild took leave last Saturday for Hagerstown, Wayne county, where he will teach the comiug winter. , L. E. Miss I-lmnui Kenton,, of Surrey, and and Miss Jale.y Pat kinson, of Pleasant Ridge, spent Saturday and Sunday with Clara Kenton, of Marlborough. Monon and Marlborough base-ball played a match game of ball at Marlborough, Sunday afternoon. Quite a crowd witnessed the playing, if it was Sunday. Pieasant Ridge was quite surprised, last Thursday morning, on linding that some unknown party had set lire and destroyed the “platform” upon which some of the young folks were anticipating another grand dance Saturday evening. It is thought iby some that the women burned it. others say the meu. but it is a mystery-to all; but Gou bless the one that did, and saved our little village from the disgrace of a second I’LATi'OHJt dance. Mr. and Mrs. Felix IJarker made a visit to the northern part of Union tp.. last Sunday, in hot haste, to see their new relation. Lowmi an, of Pleasant Ridge, and the red line, managed by Charley Oglesby.* of Lee. Both are gentlemen of undisputed character and reputation. It is said that the old ladies gather up- their marketing and go to the cross-roads to meet them, that the men folks sit on the fence to ask them for a chew of tobacco, that the young ladies stand on the door, steps and wave thrir handkerchiefs as they go off. as if saying “Farevou well brother Watkins,’' while the young chickens flee to the woods and hide.
