Bitten by a Rattle Snake.
While Mr. J. P. Bowen was binding wheat, on his farm in Newton township, last Saturday, he lifted up a sheaf in which was ensconced one of those horrid, and, fortunately, rare reptiles, a rattlesnake. Before Mi’. Bowen was aware of the serpent’s presence it had buried its poison fangs in his right thumb. As soon as possible resort was had to the well known remedy for such cases, that is, drinking large quantities of raw whiskey. In this case another and more unusual remedy was tried, also. Young chickens weie cut open, -still living, and bound upon the bitten place. In spite of the remedies, Mr. Bowen became very sick, for a time, but finally recovered.
