A hot-air balloon at Charleston, W. Va., caught fire while being inflated, and shot several hundred feet into the air, when it collapsed, William Patterson, the “aeronaut,” falling to thq earth a lifelesyaggs. It was his first nsceusion.... At Wmtqsbuig, Ky., Link Banks, a notorious outlaw, who had killed three men this year, was shot dead by a citizen whose life he was attempting. A war between rival factions in Knott County, Kentucky., has resulted in nine murders during the past three weeks... .William E. Woodruff, Sr., the first State Treasurer of Arkansas, died at Lit>le Rock at the age of eighty-nine. He established the Arkansas Gazette at Little R,ook in 1819. Jl . Secretary A. H. Smith, of the Victoria Flooring Company, • of St. Louis, writes that he has received information that in certain sections of Kansas they are cutting the wheat for feed. ■ o A murder trial at Fort Worth, Tex., was enlivened by a fight in which the counsel, Judge, and jury participated. Henry Furman, the leading counsel for the defense, and County Attorney Bowlin came to blows, and when Judge Beckman tried to separate them Lawyer Weare struck the peacemaker a'severe blow under the ear, The Judge retaliated and the fight became general, the assistance of the gentlemen of the jury being required to separate the combatants.
