De MOTTE AND KEENER.

_ Hunting about over with. -Business and building are quite lively in DeMotte. Grass is growing finely considering the cold weather. Fishing in the Kankakee river good whenever at gets warm. Stock have been picking their own living for the past two weeks. We saw R. W. Marshall with a twen-ty-two pound buffalo the other day. D. E. Fairchild, Assessor, and Wm.. Tyler, his deputy, are looking around alter ye taxable property; 4 John Graves has his big stone build ing nearly completed, it looms up big. We understand that Bruner and Troxel, are to occupy it, with a $3,000 stock of goods. Northern Jasper is in & dryer and better condition this spring, than ever before at this time of year, owing partly to dryer season and partly to the layge amount of ditching that has been done. Our people think it was a Gig mistake to change the ditch law, just as they were getting the hand of the thing. In the Wartner matter the remonstrance against commutation ot his sentence, was signed by nearly every man and woman in Keener township, and all the Hollanders (h.s own country - men) signed it freely, attd without urging. Sayiag “that he committed the crime after long premeditation, and that there is not one single.excuse, that can be truthfully urged in behalf of the murderer. * *
