The man was induced to sign an order, and in a few days ho was railed upon and to pay nearly S2OO, which he refused to do. bur finally comprised the matter by giving his note for §B-5. Not iong ago the same game was played on a loner county farmer, living tn Pleasant, tuwu- . ship, but he dis overed the trick in time to save himself, hot however, Without paying an attorney fee. The following from the Huntington Herald, explains a new swindle which is aimed at the guileless farmer: “Wc see by our exchanges that »a some parts of the country a new scheme is on foot for swindling the farmers and laborers, and these who are uneruupect- - iog. The scheme is worked in this way. A venerable gentleman approaches the farmer, and talks nf how the farmer and the laboring man generally have to pay ao much tax, and tells him that he is getting up a petition which he wishes every farmer to sign, and without any hisitati m the farmer signs the paper. The result : s that in a few days a note is presented to the farmer, and in nine cases out of ten the sharper gets the money and is’ofi before the farmer begins to realize that he has been basely swindled.
