The County Commissioners Proceedings.
Mono AT.— On the showing of Jared Benjamin, Trustee of Newton township, the Board concluded that Henry J Lewis, of that township, was unable to pay his taxes, and |the same were ordered remitted. About forty claims were considered, two of which were continued, and. the others allowed in full.
Tuesday.—The claims of the Keener township men, arising out of the |>reger murder* were disposed of, as mentioned last wdek. i. An allowance of fifty dollars per annum was made to H. SnabedisseD for keeping Mrs. Hoakley, a poor person of Carpenter tp. Some thirty-five miscellaneous claims against the county were disposed of. Wednesday. —John R. Gray, Trustee of Wheatfield township, was authorized to incur an indebtedness of $196 on the civil township of Wheatfield. In the matter of the report of the last Grand Jury, in regard to a new building at the poor farm, the Board decided that public interest demands that a building be constructed as soon as the financial condition of the connty will admit of it. The cause Was continued.
Thursday.— The sealed bids sot furnishing books, stationery and blahKs for the use of the county offices were opened and examined, and that of Levey, Baker & Co., of Indianapolis, having been decided the lowest and best, find to them the contract was awarded. | . IT bid ay. —j ohn Miller, of Barkley township, wanted the Board to pay him for time and money expended in capturing and bringing to justice‘James McColly, a horse thief. The Board allowed him $35 for money actually expended.
SUPERINTENDING THE POOR FARM. At ten o’clock, a. m., the several bids for superintending poor farm for the period of two years, were opened, and examined. All the bids are per year, and were found to be as follows; Edward Preston, $400; Chester C. Aldrich, $560; Burgess H. Dillon, $500; P. S. Hemphill, $550; John Wood, $500; Lewi's L. Daugherty, $500; J. H. Peacock, $300; John T. Daugherty $500; A. D. Culbertson, M. D., $490; Simon’ Phillips, $600; David S. Alter, James M. Hodshire, $590; Philip Me Elfresh, $400; Stephen B Coen, $600; Abner C. Pancoast, S6OO. The Board decided accept the bid of Mr. Phillips, his contract to be for the period of one year and eleven months from April loth, 1885. Saturday.— The Board re-employed Frank W . Babcock as county attorney, tor a perion of one year, at k’ salary of S2OO.
Among clainw'dis'posed of, that of L. C. Jaynes, Ex-Treasnrer of the county, for $115.95, for money expended in defending a law suit, incurred in carrying out his official duties, was disallowed: as was also that of Spring, Emerson & Co., for $lO for stationery furnished the County Surveyor. The bounty of wolf scalps was reduced from $lO on grown wolves to $5, aud from $3 on those under six months old to $1.50,
THE SCHOOL FUND. At the request of the County Auditor, and being convinced that a case of public necessity requited that the oon-' dition of the school funds, held in trust | by the county, should be examined into, the Board employed Ezra L. Clark, as an expert, to make such examination, and report npon the same at the ensuing Jane session. John Waymire was allowed $38.30 j for time and money expended in the case of S. P.
