The examination of witnesses ip the iofantcide case in which Miss Florence * White, of Brookston, Indiana, has figured most prominently, was concluded by coroner Jordon yesterday, and a verdict v, ill hie tiled today. < Daniels,, of this Ic'tv, and Truman F. Palmer, of Montitello, appeared lor the defendant and cress examined all witnesses. By the advice of her attorneys Miss White j esterday appeared beloro the coroner rnd made a statement of what she t! inks to tee the true inwardness of the v hole matter. She does not deny that the child was murdered, but under cath states that Mrs. Mattie Small is responsible for the origination and execution of the damnable plot that robbed the infant of five days age of the “fital spark of life. The White woman says that shortly after tho child was bprn Mrs. Small made two propositions fco her. One was to poison the infant, the other was to bundle it up and leave it upon someone's door step. Thß subject was discussed at some length and 'it was at last decided to put tlie little one out of existence! According to Miss White's statement, Mrs. Small v ent to Pryor's drag store and purchased the laudanum which she took home, and while the mother held the c-uild, Mrs. Small poured almost a teaspoonful of the drug down its throat, remarking as she took the spoin from its mouth, ‘-that will fix it."
—On the strength of this testimony toroner Jordon issued a warrant aud placed it in the hands of Constable Morgan, and in a short time Mrs. Small was arraigned before Justice Feader. She waived preliminary hearing and is now occupying a cell in the county jail charged with murder. While giving her testimony jesterday! Miss White frequently broke down. She is not bright and it appears is just beginning to realize the situation in which she is placed. She says that it was the understanding between her and the Small woman that, the child out of the way she was to rb'.urn from Brookston and lead a life oi prostitution, renting a room iu the Small residence.
