A New Jury System.
On one occasion, in a New Y’ork police court, a special jury was needed, and the panel was filled with ex-detec-tives loafing around the court-room. After hearing the testimony and arguments the jury retired, and in a few minutes reported ready and were brought in. “What is the finding of the jury ?” inquired the court, after the usual preliminaries. _ “Nothing, may it please the court.” responded the foreman. - , “Nothing?" echoed the judgo in surprise. “That’s all, your honor.” “Haven’t you found a verdict ?” “No,your honor.” “Really, gentlemen, this is the most astonishing experience I ever had on the bench. What’s the matter ?”, “Well, yonr honor, we are all. detec“That’s enough,” shouted the judge; ‘Mr. Sheriff, discharge the jury and impahel one that can find something.”
