The Prohibition Convention.

The Jasper county prohibitionists held their convention at the court house last Saturday afternoon. The attendance could not be fairly called largo, and among those present was a large proportion of mere spectators. A con-; --.’derable number of ladies were present and seme of them took a more or less active part in the proceedings. Elder I). T. Halstead called the convention to order and presided oyer its deliberations. A county central committee was appointed and was made up as follows': Chairman. Sampson Erwin: Secretary, S. K. Yeoman; Committee men, James Yeoman, N. Warner, A. G. W. Farmer, George Kessler. Nelson Randle. 'lhGiuas.Robinson. R. I>. Grow. Sj Ives er <’ Me;.ra. Henry Hamer; John Irewis. And as a committee of conierenee from the'A. C. T. U. the following ladies were appointed: Mrs. Dr. Deming, Mrs. Healey, Mrs. Joseph Clark. A series of resolutions were prepared by a committee consisting oi James Yeoman, Norman Warner, and John Lewis, and fvere adopted-by the convention. Gen. W. F. THE RESOLUTIONS.

Il /hristiiinity, m ■rality, and political economy, forbid the licensing of the liquor traffic, which is the admitted cause of four fifths of the crime and misery in the land. 2nd. Legislative Ppohibition of crime, and such admitted <al se of crime is not only compatible with rational liberty, but is demanded for personal protection of liberty and all the best interests of society, . 3rd. That therefore, we will hence----forth both work and voieZtaZseafteZ such legislative Prohibition. 4th. That in order thereto we are compelled to sever our former connection with the dominant parties, both of which are to-day the willing tools of the powers that be in the liquor traffic, for no higher purpose than to secure the spoils of office. 5 th, That, notwithstanding this prostitution of the dominant parties, yet we believe it is due more to designing leaders than the masses composing the parties, and that the day of their liberation is now dawnin". <3 6th. That our cause being that of ’ humanity, morality and* Christianity. We can well afford to be charitable and receive the ridicule- misrepresentation and vituperation heaped upon us. without retaliation on our part, <th.
