It was a clear, logical and Convincing speefcV, the wordsofa man who spoke from the honest and earnest convictions of Ms heart, and. who had thoroughly rnastCred and understood the subjects he discussed. His lucid exposition of the tariff question, and of the benefits of American Protection and of the falseness.and the folly of the free trader's arguments, ought to have been heard by every voter in the county, and especially by every farmer. But it was a noble speech, in all particulars, and every word of it the “gospel truth; 14 .That fine old father of republicanism, ■Dr. James Ritchey, introduced the speaker in a felicitous manner. The Cornet Band and the Glee Club, were both on hand to furnish music for the meeting. s .
