lIAEGIXG GKO VE ITEMS. Milroy English has just recovered from ihe effect of Hack received from Marsh Bledsoe. Wheat harvesting is almost finished, the crop will be above an average. Corn looks well, while oats are as good as they have beenfor years. The Packer Sabbath school has closed for wimt of audience. The Osborne still thrives, and probably wilj Until the weather is too cold for bare feet and straw hats. The prairie chickens suffer from the shots of *he greedy pot-hunters, who. n defiance of lf.w, are killing and shipping these birds from the country. The hunters, however, are very cautious, and the motion of the farmer's hat or arm is sufficient to drive them half a ’ mile away. Many Republican candidates are visiting friends in this township. They are a lively set of fellows; come and see us; you know you, as well as your ‘cigars, always meet With a hearty re'eeption.

Quite a number of our Democratic fellow citizens attend the Convention at Chicago last week. Treat Durand, J lon. Fred Hoover, E. 1). Brig'gs and W. H. Wells composed the party so far as is known to your correspondent. Mrs. Jim Irwin is expected to arrive in Remington to-day, (Tuesday). After spending a few days here with her many friends she will accompany fyer nephdw, Mart Hudson, to Dakota, ( where she will rejoin her husband at Wessington. It is rumored that Mart will have other company, but as it is only rumor we forbear. Speaking ol Dakota a letter from a friend in that delectable land gives us a very vivid description of .an Indian war dance held at Miller, Hand county, July sth, in which White Ghost, Railing Bear and hundreds of other braves’ took part. Feathers, mocassins and bright hued paper formed the greater 'part of their attire. It must have been a strange spectacle “to unaccustomed eyes.” Memorial centennial services were conducted by Rev. W. B. Slutz, at the M. E. Church last Sunday morning, in a very able and comprehensive manner, In the evening the Sunday schools of the town were addressed by Judge Allison of Madison. Rev. W. B. Slutz and the pastor, Rev. W. H. Vance. Judge Allison is a brother-in-law of O. B. Mclntyre, and is a prominent. man jn the Republican ranks, ha ving served as Presidential Elec or several times. It is refreshing to ;e i a man occupying the position that Judge Allison does turning aside from the responsible duties of his office and adihessing his remarks to little children. Such things help to make “redeeming features in the face of time”.
