Rensselaer Republican, Volume 16, Number 45, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 17 July 1884 — The Normal Institute. [ARTICLE]
The Normal Institute.
The Teacher’s Institute opened on Monday last. Mr. and Mrs. Martin arrived on Saturday before, and every thing was in readiness for work on the first day.' Twenty-three teachers were in attendance from the beginning, and the enrollment on the secoiid day reached thirty . This, considering that it is a very busy season of the year, and many of the teachers are detained at home on account of work, is a very ’ encouraging record. All of the teachers in attendance are earnestly at work, and the Institute promises to be fone of the best ever held in the county. Good board and lodging can be had at $2.50 to $3.50 per week. ’ Classes have been organized in each of the common branches, also in Latin and Civil Government. The Training school is in successful operation and quite a number of young people are taking advantage of this, by keeping in memory the studies of the past year, and getting a good preparation for the next school year. The teachers , extend a cordial invitation for visitor $ to come in, at any time, and observe the work.
