COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE

GILL AM ITEMS. Harvest near at hand. Farmers have begun haying. I Everything is booming, and people hopeful of good crops. The exercises given by the graduating class of the township, last Thursday evening, was a grand success.' The church was handsomely decorated with pictures and flowers. The olass, led by D. B. Coppess, and followed by D. M. Nelson, T. H. McCullough and several teachers, inarched in, and took their places on the rostrum, while the opening piece was being played by the orchestra, under the management of D. M. Guild. The graduates; Mary Osborne, Eva Raymond, Laura Osborne, Malinda Maddox and Frank Osborne, did honor to themselves, their teachers and their parents. It was a most enjoyable evening to all present., Tom Farden came up with Mr. Nelson. He left a favorable impression on the minds of the young ladies of Gillam. Last Saturday was the last day of the Pleasant Ridge school. The patrons did just what all interested patrons should do, they made it a holiday, and came with baskets filled with all man-

ner of good things. At noon the sehool marched, by tviros, to the grove, where every thing was all in proper order to begin the most gratifying exercise of the day. There were over a hundred took a very active part in the services. .t * 4 Mr. D. B. Coppess had a very interesting programme, which was well executed. Remarks were made by D H Guild and Rev Thomas Mason. Mr Coppess gave his pupils advice, which will be well for them to follow. 4ยป . There will be a basket meeting and centennial celebration of .the M. E. church, at Independence Chapel, July 20th, 1883. Rev. J. J. Thompson will conduct the meeting. All are cordially invited to attend.
