The Precinct Conventions
The Blaine and Logan club hold their first public meeting at the Court House next Saturday evening. A Blaine and Logan club has been organized in Rensselaer with quite an extensive membeiship and a prospect of many more. They will hold a public meeting next Saturday evening, which should be largely attended.
We learn from the Judicial convention at Goodland, on Tuesday, that upon the assembling of the delegates it was found that Ward had the whole delegation from Newton county, and nine from Benton, with several from Jasper; whereupon the names of Chilcote and Streight were withdrawn from the convention, and P. H. Ward received the entire vote. There was no opposition to M. H. Walker for Prosecuting attorney, who, also, received the unanimous vote of the convention. r' / — Although our friend Chilcote has failed of the nomination for Circuit Judge, he, at least, has the Satisfaction of knowing how high a place he holds in the esteem of his fellow citizens in this town and county, and of which ample • evidence is furnished by the large vote cast for him last Saturday. In Be nsselaer itself, the place of all others in which he is best known, although a special and determined effort was made against him, on the aground, perhaps, that it would be pglitically inexpedient to take the nomination away from Newton county, yet he received four fifths of the votes cast, and in man}* of the townships his vote tv as proportionally even greater.

M*. Nathan Eldridfle, the extrustee of Barkley tp., dropped in to renew his subscription Tuesday, (a commendable way of his, ana deserving of imitation.) Mr. Eldridge was a soldier in the regiment in which Gov. Calkins was an officer and lie ik, of course, immensely pleased at his nomina.* tion. He knows him, and “knows what’s in him” and swears by him, or would if he ever swore, which we don’t think he 6Ver does.
