WALKER ITEMS. The weather has been favorable, and crops look well. Prospects fbr huckleberries are favorable, The supervisors are now making good their time oh the roads. Jacob Wessner thinks of going to Nebraska in the coming fall. The young folks were once more made happy by knowing that John Anderson was again among them. The candidates are numerous and of a variety, but the greatest are candidates for matrimony'. | Mr. and Mrs. Knell, of Miami county, were visiting their daughter, 3Jrs. John Miller, during tho past week. Ur. £tockwell has possessed himself of a pew wind pump, a very useful article, N and something no stock raiser should be without. It is to be among the finest in the county. The Rev. McCoy preached to a well filled house, on Sunday last. His dis. coarse was earnest, and instructive, and Was listened to with interest. ’ Different parties report fishing at the Kankakee to be good. Lewis BtQckwell Intends going to Valparaiso to learn a trade. He hits not yet settled on the profession, tfJt thinks he will be a Takxkr. „ % Mr. Wm. Sabbath schools at both the Horshrnan and Hogan School houses, are in a prosperous condition. The Union sohooielected Lew Stockwell teacher, in place of Miss Hodman, resigned. Sand Bnfii. REMINGTON ITEMS. W. B, Querry, of Gillum township, a man who struck us as being part of the salt ol the earth, was in town a few days, last week. He left a good im prossion with all who made his acquaint auco. Miss Myra Price returned from Alabama, last Saturday. Her many friends will be glad to near that her winter in the south was somewhat beneficial for her health. Dr. Alter, our worthy Treasurer, accompanied by his daughters, Miss Ollie ahd Miss Lillie, and their friend, Miss Della Cotton, spent last Friday in Remington: Miss Arilla Cotton also visited town during the week. Befora ibis is in print, congratulations will be in order, according to Madam Rumor, ahd they are hereby most cordially extended. We have had the pleasure of an acquaintance of several years with the bride, and know her to be a young lady of rare intelligence and pleasing manners. As to the groom, Editors are always good and intelligent. This certainly holds true in the present instance. Remingtonian.
(} ILL AM ITEMS. Mr. D. H. Guild has returned from De Pauw University, at Greencastle. ' Corn is looking well. Tho farmers seem to be resting in perfect ease, while prosperity is shining on them. Miss Anna DesElims has returned fiom Little Rock, Ark., to spend the summer with iriends. L. E. and E. O. Rathfon and Emma Robinson have returned from school at Terre Haute. L. Guild and E. O. Rathfon are going into the book business for a couple of months. Master Harry Glover, youngest son fyfftaperintendent J. E. Glover, of the nail factory *,in Terre Haute, is visiting Laura and Emma Rathfon. The relatives and friends of Mrs. A. P. Rockwell and Mrr Perry Des Elms, to the number of IIU assembled at the residence of Mr. A. P. Rockwell on last Thursday and gave them a surprise on Mrs. Rockwell, as her sister Anna had succeeded in getting Mrs. R. out to hunt Turkey nests , lidtil the crowd were dll there. With their baskets well filled with all the necessaries to make a complete dinner, they proceeded to spread the tables' under the gm-at shade trees in the yard. All enjoyed themselves hugely, partaking of the feast. Among the guests were Rev. McCoy and wife, Rev. John Sebring and family, of Brook; Prof. T. Mason, of Little Rock, Ark. and Master Harry Glover, of Terre Haute. After dinner a few remarks were made by Prof. Mason and Rev. Me Coy, after which the happy two received the presents that their many friends besto Wed upon them through the hands of D. and L. E. Rathfon» The party spent the afternoon in social conversation and the younger people in a game of Croquet. * * *
Ml?. D. H. Guild, of Gillam tp., who is a stddent of De Pauw University, Was in town Monday and Tuesday wearing the uniform of j the military organization, of the institution. Mr. Guild is putting in his vacation canvassing for VV . D. Owens great book, “The Genius of Industry.” We generally fight a little shy of the book agents, but Oweus’ book caught j us right away. We’ believe it to j be a great and valuable work. ; T I We inadvertantly neglected tomention, in our last issue, the ex-1 hibition drill and festival given by the K. of P. Drill Corps, last week. Both drill and festival were successful, but especially the drill. In this connection we cheerfully accede tq* the wishes ot the members of the corps, in publicly expressing thoir thanks to the many ladies who did so much to assist in making the festival a success. ■ 11 * —- - > Election X* tlce.
