The Plumber’s Resolve.
Somerville Journal : When the plumber returned from church he was in an unn u illy thoughtful mood, and the gloomy shadow on his face was in deep contrast to the coruscating brilliancy of the diamond that flashed and glowed upon the ruffled bosom of his shirt. “What is the matter with yon, my dear?” asken his wife, as she fluttered a jewel-incrusted fan in whdse handle was ret a ruby that once belonged to the Begum of .Jnbbaljxjre, and which glowed like a piece of red-hot charcoal in a washtnb mender’s brazier. “I think I will go oufof the plumbing business,” he replied, a* his fingers n r - ously toyed with the string of pearls that formed his watch chain. “Go out of the plumbing business!” she excla med, starting back q.nd overturning a costly vase which had been ethumedfrom the ruins of Troy, and which fell upon the crimson velvet carpet with a crash. “What have yon done?” he cried. “it’s nothing,” she replied, composedly. “a mere bauble for which I gave the trilbng sum of SIO,OO ) ont of my last month’s pin-money, r But tell me, why' are you going out of the plumbing business ?” “Well, I learned at church to -day that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” “But yon will still be rich if you give up the business. You have already accumulated gr>-at wealth.” “! will get ril of it at once.", “What will you do—give it away?” “No, I will start a comic paper.”
