Regular SessionWednesday:—The trustees of tha various civil townships were authorized to incur temporary indebtedness on account of the road fund to the following amounts: Hanging Grove $193.30, Gillam $157.74, Walker §62.35, Barkley $314.19, Marion §583.20, Jordan $203.28, Newton $233.83, Keener $47.89, Kankakee §54.15, Wheatfield §30.78. Carpenter $5Bl 23, Milroy $26.97, Union $136.59. ■-" Thirty-two claims were disposed of, all being allowed in full except that of Ira B. Robbins, M. D. for s2B.’for relief of poor in Keener township, which was disallowed. Thursday:—Thirteen claims were allowed in full. The tax levies for the year 1884 for the county and the various townships and .corporations were ordered. The levy for county revenue was fixed at $1.20 on each SIOO. taxable property, and lor county jail 101 cents on each §IOO. Friday Thirty claims were considered, all being allowed in full except two which were continued for further consideration.. The report sos Addison Parkison, appointed by the board to superintend the const the abutments of the new bridge at Rensselaer, was received and adopted. He reported that the abutments were, Si all respects ' as good, if not better than the contract called for. O.i petition of William D. Meyer, I township trustee, the voting place of Walker township was changed from the Hershman school house to Walker school house in that township. ■<j Saturday:—The new bridge at | Rensselaer was reported completed; and accepted by the board and the auditor ordered to draw his warrant on the county treasurer for the amount due the Wrought Iron Bridge Co., of Canton,- Ohio. A number of claims were disposed of. The grand jury reported that they had examined into the condition and management of the county jail and find it good in every j respect, so for as they could see. The grand jury also reported on Jtbe condition of the poor farm to the effect that everything, was in good order, clean and well kept, and the inmates well: cared for, but that the back building j was in bad repair and unhealthy for, anyone to stay in. | The biilot’S. Sayler i and I, J Porter for building bridge in ] Nuwton and Mllr >y townships, was I disallowed, and an appeal taken to the circuit court by Mr. Thompson. S. R. Nichols aud. John Waymire were each allowed § - 3.50 for otic day’s services, -as commissioners, in examining and measuring the stone-work of the naw bridge, and ou the instance of i J. W. Powell, a tax-payer of the 1 bounty, an appeal from said allowances was taken to the circuit co..rt. Chas. Meyers was appointed agent of the Board to put the approaches of , Baum’s bridge into good condition, before winter.—~ - - Edward Morlan was employed by the Board to paint aud tighten the bolts of the various iron bridges of the county, at a salary of two dollars per day. The Board then adjourned until the next regular session, unless soouer called together by the Auditor. SPECIAL SESSION. Pursuant to the call of the auditor t he Boahl met special in session, Monday, : jane complete vthe unfinished business of the previous week. Monday:—The Auditor’s annual financial exhibit of receipts and expenditures of the county for the year ending May 31st, 1881. was examined, approved and ordered placed upon the records. Tne exhibit appears ill full in this week's issue of The Republican. David Newels adduced evidence which convinced the Board that the Now - els Block, in the town of Rensselaer, had been assessed too High and they accordingly reduced the assessment from $12,000 to §10,500 ftnd also refunded him the sum of $?07,36 as the amount of over-taxation he had paid on the block since 1879.
