Judge Hammond's Opinien.
•. Indianapolis Journal.. While Blaine was not my preference, I am satisfied that he is the choice of the great majority of the Republican party, and for that reason I am satisfied. Taken altogether, I believe that it is the best nomination that could have been made. I had hoped that the nominee for Vice-president w’ould be Governor Porter, The Hon. W. W. Gilman, whois now chairmair'of the Newton county Republican central committee came to Rensselaer ''Tuesday and went away yesterday evening. His object was to confer with Mr. Rinehart, chairman of th® Jasper coutity committee, but as the latter had gone to Chicago, Mr. Gilman did not meet him. We may prop.erly say in this place that Mr. Gilman is not a candidate for re- elec- ' tion as represenative to the state legislature. Circuit Court.—The Circuit court began work in earnest Monday morning, but so far Ims been inainly. engaged on routine work necessary but not of general interest. The grand jury was discharged on Friday. They found five inditments, one of which is said to be of a highly asnsatibnal character. “
