About Teachers and Schools.
After, a more than ordinarily successful school year, of nine months duration, the Rensselaer public schools closed last week. The teachers have been zealous, faithful and efficient and as a result the scholars under their care, have, on the whole, made excellent, progress; as the very large number of promotions made at, the close of the school, clearly shows. The School Board have already employed Mt. Kirsch for another year as superintendent of the schools, and have also decided to employ an assistant instructor for the high school. The other teachers have all, with the exception of Miss Lille Bartoo, applied for their present positions next school year, and will, we presume be accepted, ae they deserve.
The nftw bridge is now open to public travel. It is a noble structure. Causelessly cussing the bounty commissioners is a common custom in this community. The Drill Corps* Festival is next Tuesday night, remember. The boys deserve a liberal patronage. T. J. Farden went down to Warren county Tuesday on a business and pleasure visit among his old friends there. Census Returns: Geo. Nagle, a daughter, May 25th. John H. Jesson; a son, June 2nd. Archie Grubb, a son, June sth. The Ladies Literary Society will meet next Thursday afternoon, June 19th, at the residence of the Misses Smith, at the North End. Annual Conference. ——The Nothwest Indiana Conference, of the M. E. church will be . held this year at Attica, beginning August 17th. Bishop Foster will preside. “Childrens’ Day” was observed at the M. E. church Sunday evening, with appropriate exercises. Recitations, songs Ac., /all performed by the children. The altar was beautifully decorated with flowers. Elder 0. C. Ramsey, of Chicago, 111., will commence a series of meetings at the Church of God, in this places on next Saturday evening, to continue over Sunday. Eldet Ramsey is ft very interesting talker, and an able expotinder of the Gospel. All are invited to go and hear him.
