A glance at the Announcement column of The Republican shows that quite a large number of good citizens are willing to serve the county in the capacity of Sheriff or [Treasurer. All of them, so far as we know, are good men, and whichever of them should receive the nominations of the party will receive a full-hearted and earnest support from this paper. Until the nominations are made hqwever we believe that it would be improper and impolitic for the paper to tijke any part in the matter in favor of any candidates, J either directly or indirectly. We do not believe that it would be proper for us to “boom” any of the county candidates editorially, not to permit others to do so through the t medium of correspondence or communications. We do not deny that among uhe men who are seeking the nominations for the county offices there are some whom we believe would make much more available candidates than others; and tliere are. still others, perhaps, whose success we should desire from motives of personal regard. Our duty to the Republican party ' will not permit us to give them any assistance through the columns of this paper. All the candidates - and all their Trieudff wm readily admit the propriety of our course m this respect, and w'e believe, upon reflection, that they will also see the propriety and the justice of oui declining to allow the claims oi any of the candidate# to be advocated through the paper previous to the nominations.
