A •_ ! A numerously. signed petition was presented to the board, asking j them vo recbnsidpr their aeUoh oij Tuesday, in regard to James P. Givens’ saloon license, and to try the case upon its merits during the present session. The motion to proceed with the ease was exhaustively argued by cor.h.-iT ior the applicant ami the remonstrants. The board finally decided to pi'ocied. with the case during this term, and set the trial for ‘J o’clock a. m., the next day. Frida v. —The saloon, case occupied nearly the entire day. A number of reputable witnesses testified that they had known the applicant Givens, for years and that his moral character was good, and in fact the general impression seemed to be that not only was Ins moral character good enough on general principles, for a silicon keeper, but altogether' too good, but the remount rants having shown that certain minors hall obtained liquor and played pool in ! the saloon since Givens bus been i in charge of it, and that he . had Sold liquor to a man in the habit! of becoming intoxicated, the board | decided to refuse Kim the license. This decision will close the saloon, at lease until the J une term of the commissioners court, as an appeal cannot hi taken to the circuit court before the June term. Whether Air. Givens will appeal' from the decisions or The-com-missioners, we are unable to say. The former order requiring at-i fidavit to be made to claims presented to the board for payment., was rescinded.
