A Divorce Granled:
On the Bth day of April, 1880, iu Walker township, Jasper county , indiana, Jobn Krup, a native of Buffalo, .New York, but of German extraction, married Deua Hasselbring, a handsome and intelligent girl, a little under sixteen years of age at that time, aud a native of Lake county, but also of German parentage. Four days after the wedding, Krug, in company with liis wife’s brother, went over into Lake county for some purpose, and there Krug left- his brother-in-law, with the excuse that he was going to Grant Park, 111., to look after a clerkship iu a store, which, lie said had been promised him there. That was the last Dena, or any of the Hassalbrings, ever saw of the deceitful Krug. Some months afterward, he wrote her a letter from some point in Colorado, hut otherwise lias made no sign of his existence from that day. Borne mouths ngo Mrs. Krug j began proceedings, in the Jasper l circuit court, to obtain a decree of : divorce from Krug, on the plea of ! desertion. The case came up for a hearing Tuesday; and there beiug but one side to it, Judge Ward soon saw the justice of Mrs. Krug’s (request, and granted the the asked for divorce. The plaintiff was given custody of her little daughter, and * permission to resume her maiden name, Dena Hasßelbriug. Messrs Douthit and Marshall were the attorneys fox the plaintiff
The Iroquois Library. —Tjlre stockholders of the Iroquois Library held a meeting at the office of M. F. Chiicote on' Monday evening, foi the purpose of electing a new board of directors. M, F. Chiicote was chosen chairman and E. L. Clark secretary, of the meeting. The directors chosen were, J. H. Willey, Addison Parkinson, Ezra L. Clark,. W. B. Austin and Emmet Kaunal. The board of directors will meet Friday evening, Jan., 11th, to effect a permanent organization. The following iy the Monticello Herald's account of the arrests.at j Monon, mentioned in last week’s Republican. On last .Saturday Benjamin Reynolds, Fred Bloomer, M. Wiggins, John Keenan. all white, and Fred Douglass, colored, all of Monon, were brought before Esq. Wirikloy .of that place, charged with stealing coal from the L., N. A. &C.R. R. Co. The parties not being ready for trial, asked for a continuance until Friday of this week, whiojr was granted. Reynolds and. Bloomer were released on bail, and tho rest were committed to the custody of Sheriff SUwart, but released Sunday on giving the required bond. The R. R.
