War and Education Compared.
A Belgian statistician has published some interesting facts about the comparative sums paid by each citizen in the various countries of Europe for war purposes and few education. In England war taxes per capita amount to $4.45, educational to 75 cents; in France the respective amounts are $5.1? and 33 cents; in Frassia, $2.83 and 58 cents; in Bussia. $2.43 and 8 cents: in ltaly, $1.85 mid 1« cents; in Austria, $1.60 and 39 cento; in Switzerland, $1.16 and sl. Of aB these countries, the last is the only one that makes a decent comparative showing for the instruction of youth.
