The Holidays in Rensselaer.

Holiday week is always lively in Rensselaer and that of the present winter is, usually so. The Sunday Schools: On Monday evening Christmas entertainments were given by the Sunday schools, at the Presbyterian and M. E. churches. Large audiences attended at both places. Interesting literary and musical programmes were rendered, and a vast array of presents distributed at both places. ■s ; At the Opera House;— The Criterion Dramatic company began a four nights engagement at the Opera House, on Monday night. The company is possessed of much real dramatic merit, and all their performances so far have been well -worth the labor and expense of seeing them. The first night they gave Fauehon, The Cricket, Owing to the other attractions in town the audience was rather small. On Tuesday evening They played “The Ticket-Of-Leave man to an excellent house. On Wednesday was given “The Lady of Lyons” Bulwei’s most celebrated play. The attendance was fair, though" not quite so good as on the previous evening. Claude seems to be Mr. Wodiska’s strongest point, and he carried .through this difficult part in a manner deserving of the highest commendation. Miss Eva Pilchards, as Pauline quite surprised her audience by the excellence of her performance. The same company will give John Logan’s Curse tonight. .
