Licensed to Marry.
Governor Ordway, of Dakota, lias got a big boom, too, blit his is working the wrong way. The people of that territory are making a tremendous effort to have him removed from the governorship, and with good prospects, seemingly, of success. The enlightened people of Washington territory have lately followed the wise example of Wyoming territory, and adopted women’s stiffrage. A strong movement is now on foot to secure the appointment of Mrs. Dan way to the governorship of the territoiy. Mrs. Dun. .Way was largely instrumental in securing the adoption of the woman’s suffrage plan in the territory. The illustrated, Holiday supplement which is presented to our readers with this issue of The Republican is possessed of so many merits, both literary and artistic that we feel confident that all will find in it some valuable and interesting features. Senator Sherman thinks that] an international railroad, 4,500 miles in length, should be built along the eastern slope of the great western mountain chain, from the United States to Patagonia, or somewhere near it, and has introduced a bill authorizing the President to write the countries interested, including Mexico and most of the South Ame rican states, to send delegates to Washington, to meet in convention during the year 1884, to take action in regard to the project The bill appropriates 850,000 to pay the expenses of the convention .
There has been considerable talk lately of consolidation of L., N. A. & C., and the C., T, St. L., & 0. railroad systems, and active negotiations looking to that result were lately in progress for sometime. It is now announced, however that, so far, nothing lias come of the negotiations but the project has not been abandoned but remains for the present, “in statu quo; with some probability that it will be taken up at an eaiiy day, and the consolidation consummated. In that case the ('. I. St. L. & Q. traius would be likely to enter Chicago over the C. & G. S. and L., X. A. & C. tracks.
