Died:— Saturday morning, Dec. 22nd, at her home near Rensselaer, Elizabeth Minikus, wife of John Minikus, of consumption. The funeral was held at 'the Catholic church, on Monday, and was conducted by the Rev. J. Zumhuelta. ~ Heiiery Eigelsbacli will make a public sale, at the Jonathan Peacock farm, near town, on Friday, J an., 4th, —a notice of whice appears in another place in this paper, —and will start for his new home in Nebraska iu about two weeks. Mitchell’s Christmas— Born, at Rensselaer, lnd., on Tuesday morning, Dec.. 25th, 1883, to Mrs. C. P, Mitchell, teacher of the grammar department, in the Rensselaer public schools, a son, a fine boy, and doing well, is also the mother. Hon. R. fe. Dwiggins returned from. Battle Creek Friday evening, and in his company was Col. Geo. E. Yarrington, of The Continental railroad company. Col. Yarrington took the train for the east on Saturday. He still has hopes for the future of his railroficL The report was widely circulated last week that Col. Bennett H. Youug, president of the L., N. A. & C. had, at the request of the Board of Directors, tendered his resignation of the presidency of the road, but Col. Young emphatically denies the truth of the report. ■ •• • • • The new timetable, now in force on the L., N. A. & C. railway* appears in this issue of The Rebublican. The tables for both the main line and the Indianapolis Air Line divisions being, given. Circuit Court. -Fifty new cases have been entered <?n the tivi docket for the next term of the Jasper Circuit Court A larger number than at any previous term for many vears. No cases whatever have, v as yet, been entered on the ‘criminal docket. The court [convenes Monday, January <th* 11884. Despite the large number ;of cases upon the civil docket, it promises to be a rather nuaaterest--1 mg term. j To-night, Thursday, will posi- , lively be the last appearance of ] the Criterion Dramatic Company in butt* town; when they will give the Romantic and sensational drama, “John Logan’s Curse ” or “The child of the Woods.*’ This ! play created quite a sensation on | its first production in New York. It is replete with startling situations, while a brilliant vein of comedy rtfns through the play. Mr. Wodiska will appear as Jonn Logan, the half breed, and Lie .charming Soubrette, Lida Cooke will take. she sprightly character of Ruth,, or Carrotta. This is a fftat class company and should have a full house.
