FROM SUEREY.
“Beautiful dreamer awake from thy slumber”. Holidays will soon be here and anticipate a grand time at the Christmas tree at ‘-Sorghum Valley.” There is talk of a tree at Union School house, also. The Nimble Nickle store has opened up a grand lot of holiday goods, and is almost giving them away. Mrs. Geo. Wilcox returned from a visit among relatives in Urbana, 111., just in time to entertain her brother John F. Busey and family, from Bunker Hill, Ind., on their way to Oakland, Cal., where they expect to make their future home. Uncle Jesse Wilcox is spending the winter with his son G. M. Wilcox. Henry St. Clair was surprised last SatupPiy e~vchTirgon feaclimgUbmej'tc find that a goodly number of his neigli- [ bors and relatives had assembled and prepared a bountitul feast, in honor of his thirty-fourth birthday. A new side walk is being put in on south side of Main street, jfrom tne Nimble Nickle store, east to R. R. St. Mr. D. H. Yeoman and son shipped a load of cattle from this place to Chicago one day last week. Elder W. R. Nowels is away preaching, and expects to be absent until sometime in January. • D. B. Nowels’ school at Union is progressing, and if it were not for our very great regard for the feelings pf other teachers we would say, we have the, best teacher in the county. 1 W-
REMINGTON ITEMS.
The weather over this way is too pleasant for the best interests of the farmers as they need freezing weather to perfect the corn. Our schools and s cholars are progressing finely under the able management of Prof. Fagan, and his corps of teachers. The attendence is large, so large indeed, that there is a talk of dividing the Grammer and High School departments, and of employing .another teacher, if a suitable room can be foundThb friends of Mr. and Mrs. Draper gaye Ahem a pleasant surprise last Thursday evening, the occasion being the twenty—fifth anniversary of their wedding. Quite a large number of friends were present, and many beautiful, useful and valuable gifts were received. Rev. W. H. Vance gave the childhen a sermon last Sunday evening, which was listened to by a very large and well pleased audience. The church was nearly as full as on the evening. when Dr. Gobiu of Greencastle oceu-; pied the pulpit. i Those who remember Mr. Wm Bollas, I of Hartford, Conn*, who once owned a large dry goods, groceries, and notion store in this place, may be interested to know that he was lately married to kis fourth wife, in Windson, Coup. His wedding present to bis bride was $25,000. . There is quite a vigorous rivalry betwen the firms of Goldsberry & Co. and Solomon Bros., to see which can give away the most goods fdr, a given amount of money. Which is a gojd thing for those who have a little money to invest. :
