Thanksgiving service.
At a meeting of all the pastors at the residence of Rev. McDade, on Saturday evening, it was agreed that Thanksgiving Service will he held at the Baptist church, on the day appointed, Nov., 29th, 1883, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. T. C. Webster will preach the sermon, and the other resident pastors will conduct the devotional exercises. Taking them by surprise may also count for a great deal ip same communities. Some months ago, for instance, the Rev. Nebeker, of Battle Ground, came up and preached a learned and eloquent sermon, in M. E. Church, in this- place, in the interest of the Asburf - University endowment fund. At the close of the sermon, a collection for the fund yielded the magnificent sum of 45 oents. Last Sunday, at the close pf his sermon, the Bfev. Webster announced that the four M. E. conferences of this state were each pledged to raise $15,000 for the funch“ Rensselaer circuit was “in” for ten dollars ©f this amount; and unless-the congregations raised it thn pastor was pledged to pay it himself. ■ He asked the Rensselaer congregation to raise six dollars.
