Duncan’s Hare.
It is easy to reconcile one to the belief that he has discharged ah unfulfilled task, no matter how well he is of his remissness. The world is ever willing to creep through any pretext that enables it to escape a respOn-sibilitv-..Duncan, .Gorm, a. Highland idiot, has a great many imitators. Once he was.sent with a fine hare as a present to a minister, but having carelessly laid it down by the road, a shepherd’s dog made off with it. Duncan, failing to find it, went on his way and presented the letter he carried to the minister without making any reference to the lost hare. The nfinister read the noto and remarked: “Oh, Duncan, I see there’s a hare here.” “Gosh, then, that’s a’ richt,” said Duncan, “I tocht I had lost it, but if it’s there it’s a’ richt. I’ll just say that ye got tie hare_alsafe and ye’re muckle obleeged for it.”
