REMINGTON ITEMS.
An item went the rounds of the press, some weeks ago, stating that a lady, somewhere in this state, had pieced a quilt containing 5000 different scraps. Miss Gilman, of Hoiner, 111., at present the guest of Mrs. William Shaw, in this place, has just finished one containing 0498 peices,. peided within the Jast two months. It is a very handsome quilt. O. B. Mclntire lost a valuable cow* last Saturday, night. The 9r35 traiu did the business for her. She was killed right in the heart of the “city”'showing chat the train was whirling into town at a greater rate of speed than the law allows.
We are obliged to adihit that Remington has some bad boys, and some very careless parents. There is not a gathering of any kind, either social or public, but is distufbfed by these young Arabs. | If parents wbuld only do their duty; aqd look after their beys, especially at night, it would be much better for all! concerned. Failing in this, the next! best thing is for the Marshal to attend strjctly to bis duty. .We regret to state that Mr# Nelson's condition is becoming critical; still we hope that his disease may take a favorable turn, and that ho may be spared many years. L. Riley has “folded his tents” and is off in search of “fresh fields and pastures new.” We believe he intends making Lafayette his Headquarters in the future. . The Institute, Jast Saturday, was well attended, and the exercises were quite interesting. The “shadow on the waH M , or the ghost, or the “what is it?’ 1 Still makes use a burden to an ( honest German family, living in the vicinity of Remington. Mr. D—. however, views, the matter philosophically. He fays he knows its & spirit, bat if it .id w. good spirit if wont harm him, if Its a bstd, one he can't.help himself,, and ad he don’t bother much about it. 'A-V•
