Last Saturday, at Joliet, 111., a penetentiary convict named Michael Mooney, was pronounced guilty of the murder of his cell mate, John Anderson, and the penalty of death affixed. A. & 0. - In accordance with the provisions of the law which places army officers upon the retired list, after they have attained a certain age. General Sherman last Thursday retired from the command of the army, and Lieut General Sheriden was promoted to the rank of general, in his place. Next Saturday, Nov., 10th, is the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther, the great German reformer. The Rev. T. C. Webster, of the M. E. church, will make the life and labors of Luther the subject of his discourse at the M. E. church, next Sunday evening. It is a very interesting subject, and will, we know, he ably handled by Mr. Webster. The lecture should be heard by as many people as can find room in the building.
