ROSE LA WN NEWS.

The new store, Tanner &c.. is now in full blast. Go it boys, competition is the life of trade. Mr. and Mrs, Jake Keller, of Chicago, have been spending a few days at the Lawn, Quests of the Postmaster, Craig, and his fair lady. T. D. Halstead is going to leave us soon. He takes his saw-mill down into AVarren county. Success attend him. , Supervisor Park, is hard at work on the road Cast of here. He is doing up the work in gcod shape. It is a pity his jurisdiction does not extend over into Jasper Co., a few miles.

FROM DEMOTTE

E. D. Fairchild is just iinisl/n; a fine new residence, of which the Squire and his charming family ought to fell proud of. Dan is making things lively with his saw miii, it runs so fast, hia only trouble is to get logs enough. DeMotte Is looking up, business lively. Two stores in full blast, a sawmill, a "feed mil), several wind-mills and gas factories, in full operation. Another store -and several new dwellings are being talked of. The school-marm muddle in the south part of the town, is still unsettled. Trustee Fairchild has already got a taste of hot water. Be careful Joe or it will get still hotter. I f you do know more than the County superintendent, about running schools, and examining teachers, don't let him find it out. He might feel bad. The Keener sportsmen have been having fine fishing at the Kankakee river,—never better. Water fowl are slow coming down this fall, shooting not very good yet.

FROM HANGING GROVE.

Roads bad and health generally poor. Mr. Isaac Parker is just recovering from a severe illness. Charley Randle has been sick for a few days, caused by falling from a hay-mow. Mr. David Cray is also very dangerously ill, his recovery is doubtful. Farmers are now doing up their work and preparing for winter. As a general thing they have a very good crop of most everything, much better than was expected. Thus we find that he that labors shall be rewarded. Mr. John Phillips hai returned from Ohio', where he has been visiting his grand-father. He will probably spend the winter with us. a Miss Fannie Whitaker is also on the sick list. Mr. Henry Randle is. repairing his barn, building graneries and re setting his fences. Y e thinks this is a good idea.

Presbyterian Church Notes.

There was a good attendance at the ,PresteFt*.a«a -cbßr-okiAfe ing, and in the evening the house was filled with an attentive audience, there being no other church service in town, j Such a gathering together of the mem- : bers of all the churches in a voluntary { Union service, manifests the preval- 1 ence of an excellent brotherly spirit among Christian professors here. There was a larger attendance than usual at the Sunday school in the morning, which bids fair for a good winter’s j work ahead,’which every friend of (he Sunday school should turn out and help to push along. .
