The next quarterly conference, of the Bensselaer Circuit, M. E. church, will be held at Watson’s school house, south-east of town, on Sunday and Monday, Oct., 14 and 15. Yocum is 50 years of age and has a large family. It is alleged that he has made threats to end his life, owing to alleged extravagances on the part of his family. He has not been seen since the exposure, and fears are expressed" that he has carried liis threats into execution. In the spring of 18S3, George M. Blackstock, of the Littlo Wea, constructed an artificial fish-pond aud stocked it with carp two inches in length. Seventeen months later he took one out, aud it weighed five and a half pounds and measured twenty inches in length. Mr. Blackstock saj-s that the meat was solid and mild flavored, something between our native black bass and a buffalo—not so coarse as the latter, nor yet so finer as the bask The pond occupies about one-third of au acre, and Mr Blackstock is of the opinion that it contains at the present time about 1,000 of- tlie carp, of this and last year’s spawn. When William Sehiefer, present Sheriff of Allen county, took the oflice, fie appointed as one of his Deputies Isaac Campbell, who has for years beep a prominent local politician here. About two months since Campbell resigned on account of some trouble in money matters conuected with the office. A suit was commenced by Sehiefer to recover the alleged shortages. The two .meu met and Campbell drew a revolver on Sehiefer for tlie purpose of shooting him.it is su]>jiosed, but wns stopped by a bystander.
