From the Scene of Conflict.
We [have met the enemy, and they have taken us in, and done us up. A dispatch from Michigan City last evening announces %he result of the ball game yesterday afternoon as 26 to 11 in favor of Michigan City. Gold and siiver thimbles at Kannal’s. Nice line of dry goods, at Hemphill & Honan’s. The largest, the fullest and best canned Tomatoes in town, only 13 cents per can or two for 25 cents, at H. M. Purcupile’s. As the millinery season is about to close, Hemphill & Honan are determined not to carry over any stock, therefore they offer their entire line of Summer Millinery at prices that will defy opposition. Emmet Kannal has just received two brands for which he pays $38,40 per thousand, and offers them to the public at 5 cents each. They are prime, and smokers shouldnot fail to try them. They are No. 1 and he buys them direct from the factory. The base ball boys changed the time and place for their dance* last week, as anon need in this paper, to Friday evening, at the Opera House. A very pleasant time was enjoyed by those present, but the bad weather so much diminished the attendance that no money was made out of the affair.

At Purcupile’s restaurant will be found a full line of the best brands of California fruits, such as Green Gages, Apricots, Peaches, White Cherries, Muscat Grapes, Blackberries &c., all of which will be sold cheap.
