The Justice’ Court.
James Welsh, an Irishman by accident, and a gravel heaver by profession, came down from the sand pit near Bose Lawn, Saturday, and either brought a large sized rirunk with him, or else acquired one pretty promptly after his arrival, and was taken in charge by Sheriff Powell. When arrested James contended that there was some mistake about the matter and that he was not drunk. But the truth of the matter was hewasleally too drunk to know whether he was’drunk or sober. On Monday morning, after due reflection; he took that view of case Mmself and plead guilty to a plain drank, before Squire Wood, and was fined one.’dollar and costs. He will put in about ten days in doing chores for Sheriff Powell. Bad Blood has been brewing between John L. Stone of Remington and Jeremiah Huffine, his neighbor, in the same bailiwick for Some time. If - there is anything in a name then the aforesaid Stone might, naturally, be taken for a pretty hard specimen. Be that as it may, Huffine last week had him arrested on the charge of provoking an assault, and also instituted surety ■of the peace proceedings against him, alleging that he was in fear that Stone would do some injury to himself, some members of his family, or to some of his property. Stone took a change of venue to this township, and on Monday morning, before Squire Wood, plead guilty tn the charge of pro- ‘ voke and was fined one dollar and costs. He waived preliminary examination, in the surety to keep the peace matter, and entered into bonds to dwell in amity with his neighbor until the October term of the Circuit Court, when the question of Huffine’s grounds to fear injury will be inquired into by that tribunal. It is strange, says an exchange, how close people read the papers. We never say anything that anybody don’t like but we hear of it But if we say ; a good thing, we never hear of that—nd one seems to notice it We may pay some man a hundred compliments, and give him a dozen puffs, and he takes it as a tribute to his greatness, and never thinks anything about it But if we happen to say something that* this man does not like, see how quickly he flies up about it. All our evil is duly charged to us, but apparently, we get no credit for the good we do.
