The case of the State vs. Calvin Cavender was begun Monday afternoon. Daniel Frazer and W. W. Watson for the people and S. P. Thompson and W. . B. Austin for the prisoner. It was a hotly contested case and took an unexpectedly wide range, re* quiring the attendance as witnesses upon one side or the other of pretty near the entire male population of Nubbin Ridge. Witnesses were impeached and bad reputations established in* large numbers. Theinevitable “alibi” of course again ’‘bobbed up serenely.” The ’court charged the juiy Tuesday evening after supper, and in a very few minutes they agreed upon a verdict of •‘not guilty.” Glass ware cheap, at Bedford & Osborn family paints in any desired quantity and shade, at Meyer’s drug store.
