The Supreme Court of the United States had rendered a decision in the case against the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad, known as the Ruggles suit, the gist of the deei-ien being that the State of Illinois has a right to fix maximum charges for the conveyance of freight and passengers..... The Millers won two notable victories in the Supreme Court, the Deuchfield and Downton patent suits having been decided in lavor of the defendants.- The ’ royalty sous ht to be recovered under the Deuchfie d patent for cooling and drying meal amounted to *1,090,000, while the Downton patent for manufacturing middling flour was estimated to be worth *3,000,000... .The Supreme Court denied the petition for a retiring of the Louisiana and Virginia bond *Kes. The May crop report of Ohio State Board of Agriculture, based on 682 township reports, gives the following averages, compared with May, 1882: Wheat—winter killed and plowed up, 10 per cent of total acreage; condition of the rest, 62 per cent, making the total probabilities 56 per cent, or about 25,500,000 bushels, with good weather till harvest Rye, condition 72; barley, 63; meadows, 86; pastures, 82; spring pigs, 98; lambs, 94.
